Commercial Energy Performance Certificates
Commercial properties and public buildings currently account for nearly 25% of the UK's carbon emissions, contributing to global climate change.
Commercial Properties
By 'commercial properties' it is meant any building that is not a dwelling. Like domestic EPCs, commercial EPCs have banded colour coded energy and C02 rating charts as well as a recommendation report for possible improvements.
All commercial properties when built, sold or rented require a commercial energy certificate with the exception of the following cases:
- Places of worship.
- Temporary buildings with a planned time use of less than two years.
- Stand alone buildings with a total useful floor area of less than 50m2 that are not dwellings.
- Industrial sites, workshops and non-residential agricultural buildings with low energy demand.
- Buildings to be demolished.
Who is responsible for providing the commercial EPC?
When a non-domestic building is physically complete it is the responsibility of the person carrying out the construction to give an EPC and a recommendation report to the building owner and building control. As soon as the building is in the process of being offered for sale, it is the responsibility of the seller to make available an EPC to prospective buyers free of charge. As soon as the building is the process of being offered to let it is the responsibility of the prospective landlord to make available a commercial EPC to prospective tenants.
Once an EPC has been produced it is valid for ten years (or until a newer EPC is produced.)

Treating Customers Fairly is a core principle of our company and the way we conduct our business.

If I had my way, I would write the word "INSURANCE" over the door of every cottage and upon the blotting book of every public man, because I am convinced that for sacrifices which are inconceivably small, families can be secured against catastrophies which otherwise would smash them forever. - Sir Winston Churchill.
